When you have a lake like Guntersville in your back door there is good news and bad news. The good news is, well, its Guntersville and fishing should always be great. The bad news is the weekends are crowded and the fishing pressure is getting worse. The question becomes: 'What do you do when every spot you want to fish will and does get beat to death day after day?"

First, I must tell you there is probably a reason that an area or spot get beats to death, or becomes a community hole. Yes, it holds fish and everyone knows it and they are probably catching fish off it. But so are you, so my advice is "don't get run off your community hole." Have a couple of your spots where you know there are fish, get to them early and fish them.

That means you must have an idea of your blast off time, because you want to have a couple of holes close to each other that you have a chance of hitting first on your blast off. I believe that most lakes offer up a couple of early hour fish that can make the difference in winning or losing a tournament. So hit your community hole early, have it close enough to get there first and have a couple of them close together. This gives you a chance and doesn't force you to make a drastic change before you get a shot at getting to the best areas first.

Next have a few areas off the beaten path, maybe out from the community hole that is not being beaten up everyday. I believe that when the fish move they stay close to the area they hold in regularly, and if you can find some fish out from an area that is getting beaten up, you have a chance to find some structure they would hold and move to when the pressure forces them to move.

Lastly go deep, one common thread to bass fishing is that only one out of ten tournament fisherman fish deep. So if you can find some deep fish when the pressure picks up on the common holes your deep bite should produce and give you a shot at winning!
