| Hooking Bass in All The Wrong Places | |
|
by Jerry Whitlock
The following are true stories. I fish Lake Oconee a lot. My wife, Rita, is usually on the back of the boat. She will vouch for me. We strictly fish for largemouth bass using orthodox methods - generally....
One day we were fishing a blow down at the mouth of a cove near Port Armor. I was using a Texas Rigged, Green Pumpkin, Zoom Mag ll. I snagged a LM bass - maybe a good 3/4 pound but he pulled like the lunker I was in search of. I got him closer to the boat and hoisted him up .....only to see that I had hooked him right in the anus - seriously. Don't know how it happened - particularly with a single hook and a plastic worm. The funny thing was - I was using a Number Two hook!
Then, early one morning we were fishing the flat on the point on the left hand side going into the Port Armor Marina. I was throwing a huge DD Shad colored crank bait. I hooked a 2-1/2 pounder. Got him up to the boat and netted him....but, he only had one eye. I guess I sneaked up on him on his blind side....or, maybe he was just keeping an eye out for me! Get it?
