Kurt Jacobs and Alaska Steelhead
The first one is me, in the dark glasses, with my 32.5" steelhead. This was caught and released in a small stream in Southeast Alaska. He was caught with a silver spinner which I had removed the treble hook and replaced it with a single barbless hook. I was using 14 lb. fireline which I think has the best feel of anything I have tried. Especially good when I am using bait with a light biting fish like steelhead. Most of the fishing up there is sight fishing where you carefully walk the bank looking for steelhead and then fish to them. Very clear water and very spooky fish!

The second picture is my day guide, Mike Mirk. We would get dropped off in the morning and then spend the day fishing a stream. We would not see another human until we were picked up at 7:00 in the evening. We would see bears though! There was even enough steelhead to let the guide catch one occasionally. His is classic "bright chromer". It was probably only in the fresh water for two hours. It was caught near the tidewater as we were walking back to be picked up.

The last picture is a scenic shot for everyone that is put off by the tales of arm to arm and shoulder to shoulder fishing that you hear about fishing on the Kenai in Alaska. There is a lot of great fishing up there with no fishing pressure at all! These streams in the pictures are not that remote but no one fishes them. Steelhead are in May but throughout the summer there are all of the different runs of salmon. Next year I'll return in May and again in September for silver salmon.
