KISS - Keep it simple, stupid. That instruction was given to me years ago on something I was doing and I often think I should apply it to my fishing. Getting back to my roots might make fishing more enjoyable and relaxing. Although I like the way I am fishing now, sometimes it seems like I have lost something. For the past few years most of my fishing has been done from bass boats with 150 to 200 hp motors, two depth finders, an electric trolling motor and aerated live wells. The boat is loaded with about 30 rods and reels as well as hundreds of lures and spinnerbaits. I probably carry 60 pounds of plastic worms and lizards and other similar baits. All that equipment mostly stays in the lockers and I fish with just a couple of rods and lures I have confidence in, but it always available if I want to try it. Most days I cast for hours trying to get just a few bites and catch a five bass limit in a tournament. For up to 10 hours a day I am standing on one foot with the other running the trolling motor and making cast after cast - turning fishing into work. Lately I have started fishing in a pond for bream a lot. I have been feeding them for over a year now and they are growing - not big yet but there are a lot of 5 and 6 inch long bluegill swimming around looking for something to eat. I got a Shakespeare Microlight rod and reel and loaded it with four pound test line. After trying a variety of baits including dough balls, jigs and worms, I found a piece of the food worked best. After all I was matching the hatch - that is what they were feeding on. Page 2 > Simple Bream > Page 1, 2
