| Part 1 - Fritz hooks the smallmouth | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
Fritz and I were fishing a big bay off Crab Lake, catching some smallmouth. He had also caught a small muskie while throwing a Senko. I was using a Tube jig and a slider worm. The bite was a little slow but we were getting enough hits to keep us interested. As we approached a floating swim dock I hooked a smallmouth. After landing it both Fritz and I cast to the same area and he hooked a bass. The he hooked another one, and then a third, all while I was casting and not getting another bite! It was almost time for us to head in for supper but we decided to fish a few more minutes. Just past the floating dock was some grass and wood in the water. Fritz cast his Senko near it and soon hooked a good fish. It was the biggest of the day and looked to weigh about 3 pounds as it fought in the clear water. When Fritz got the fish near the boat it made a run under it and broke his line. The end of the line was rough, indicating the line had been frayed by an earlier fish or that the teeth on the bass had rubbed it during the fight. That often happens with light line when a bass swallows the bait deeply.
