Saturday morning we loaded Fritz’s stuff in my boat again and he helped me get it in the water. While we were unloading Kevin walked up and put some of his stuff in. We launched and I took Fritz to where Warren’s boat was docked, then went back to the shoreside dock for Kevin.

As we all sat at the no wake buoy waiting on the word to go, Warren yelled at me that he was gonna get me that day. I agreed, saying I would probably zero if my usual luck held up. All he had to do was catch at least 5 pounds, 12 ounces to beat my first day total. I have a hard time catching fish two days in a row. I think I often wear a place out the first day and then stick with it too long the next day. But I have a hard time changing something that worked. I told Warren I would just do my best.

At blastoff we ran to the creek where I had caught the big one the day before. As we neared it I got a worse feeling in my stomach. Wind was blowing directly into the creek and into those pockets. My worst fears were realized - the wind would make it almost impossible to fish the Fluke with a slack line.

When we stopped and started casting, it was even worse than I thought. Not only did the wind blow the line and move the Fluke around, there was so much trash in the water that each time I raised my rod tip the line hit something, making it almost impossible to tell if there was anything there.

We fished the first three pockets without a bite. The last one was a little protected from the wind and I got a bite - and put a 4 inch spot in the boat! I was just about crying when I put it in the livewell, saying I sure did hope I could cull it!

As we came out of this pocket, another problem. The boat from the day before was now visible in the back of the creek. They had already fished the bank we were on, and I did not want to follow them any longer. We fished the sycamore tree where the four pounder had hit on Friday but got nothing. It was very hard to get the bait back under the tree with the wind blowing the line, and when a good cast was made the wind blowing the line kept the bait from sinking right.

By now my back was hurting and Kevin said he had the same problem. We were both trying as hard as possible. Kevin tried a variety of lures, trying to find something that worked, and I kept the Fluke wet.

I told Kevin we should go to the next creek and we moved. It was a little more protected, and at the first pocket we saw a bass on the bed, the same one as the day before. Just like on Friday it bumped my Fluke on the first cast then ignored everything else we threw at it.

In the next cut I skipped the Fluke under a tree and my line tightened up after the Fluke hit the bottom. I set the hook and was thrilled to land a 13 inch spot. Did not know it at the time, but that was all I needed to win.

I caught another spot, about 11 inches long, in the next cut. I now had three little fish in the livewell but I guessed they would not weigh more than two pounds total. It was now about 11:30 and we fished around the back of the little creek and started out. I fished the first pocket then decided to go for a walk on the bank.
