Georgia Outdoor Writers
Dateline 5/1/00
Each year the Gerogia Outdoor Writers Association holds its Excellence in Craft competition. Members submit articles in different categories and they are evaluated by outdoor writers in South Carolina. Winners are announced at the annual banquet.
This past weekend, I won awards in four categories of the six I entered. That is a great honor to me, and I am very proud to win those awards.
One of my favorite articles won 2nd place in the Daily Newspaper Category. It is about my Squirt, a dog that I had for 12 years. I think I could write a book about him and my other dog, Merlin. Matter of fact, I might!
I also won 2nd place in the Conference Site Category. These articles are about the places we hold conferences, and last spring we visited Rome, GA, a great place to enjoy fishing, history, scenery and relaxation!
Ducks Unlimited sponsors a category, and I won 1st in it. They encourage articles about their organization, and I always enjoy researching and writing about an organization that does so much good work. I am interested in some things other than fishing!
The Broadcast Category includes TV and radio. I will put some of the video from Georgia Outdoor News TV here that won me third in that category, when we get streaming video! That broadcast was a fishing trip I went on with Monte Walters, a pro fisherman. It was a very enjoyable trip, and we caught some fish!
A past article also won an award for me. A story about my other dog, Merlin, won second place in the Daily Newspaper Category in 1996.
