Georgia On Your Mind

Dateline: 03/24/97

You're kidding!  It never gets too cold, dark, rainy, hot, or windy to go fishing! But there are those times, when you just can't go, that fishing on the net is the best you can do. Welcome to the fishing page, your starting point for everything you want or need about fishing.  It is the next best thing to being there.

Fishermen love the south this time of year.  While there is still snow and ice up north, flowers are blooming and fish are biting where I live.  Whether you like bass, crappie, catfish or the linesides like hybrids, stripers and white bass, the south is were you want to be in late March. And Georgia offers the best of the south!

Georgia has at least 28 major public lakes, rivers and other fishing holes. From the mountains up north where trout inhabit streams and lakes, and where you can catch walleye and striped bass, to the coast where brackish rivers are filled not only with bass, bream and catfish but also alligators, Georgia is a very diverse state. We hold the world record on largemouth bass, probably the most sought after fish in the U.S. Crappie are king on many of our Corps of Engineer lakes. Georgia Power also maintains several major reservoirs. You can get information about public lakes and rivers, as well as up to date fishing reports, by checking out the Freshwater Fishing Resource list.

Ready for a trip down south to warmer climates where the fishing is already great?  Come on down! Check out Georgia Outdoor News (GON) for articles about my great home state.  I even write some of them. The bass are moving in looking for spawning areas in mid and south Georgia right now.  See GON for more details.  Crappie are biting at West Point Lake. Hybrids are being caught as you read this at Walter F. George. Come on down and join me.

Let me know about your trip. Post it on the Freshwater Fishing bulletin board. For more information, contact me at fishing.guide@about.com. Send me your email address if you would like a newsletter about upcoming articles, fishing tips and internet information.
