Glue the baits to the hook, Al. I got that advice from Russ (Bassdozer)
Comeau at a Yamamoto writers confab in Page, AZ. I complained about
large Senkos sliding down the hook on the cast, and Russ suggested super
glue. Now, I have been fishing since 1959, and I am a traditionalist.
So, when Russs super glue idea went in one ear, got stamped
REJECT, and went out the other ear.
Not that I dont appreciate the advantages of cyanoacrylate glues, after all, during a career operating nuclear reactors aboard submarines, you learn a lot of engineering. However, super glues had never performed very well for me. They didnt often bind in a super manner, and it was inevitable that you only got to use them the first couple of times they were open. After that, they were toast, rocked up in the tube, totally unusable, even when I sealed them right.
So, when I heard about Mike Rices PROs Soft~Bait Glue®, my initial reaction, honestly, was Yeah, right. I was welding plastic baits together just fine, thank you. Well, really, the weld had to be carefully made and it often resulted in a hard junction (very aggravating when joining two Senko halves lengthwise) and it was about impossible to do while standing waist deep in some river, trying to weld baits to find the right combination for the bass, or worse yet, trying to repair the last bait that was the right bait that day.
Finally engineering overcame traditionalism, and I tried some. Occasionally, an advance comes along in fishing which is a step change in our equipment. Monofilament was one of those for line, for instance, as was fiberglass for rods followed by another in graphite. I really believe that this is that step change for these types of products for using soft plastic baits. It answers about every issue I ever had with standard superglues.
One, it will last for a long time with minimal care. Put it in the refrigerator when you are not out fishing or using it and expect it to last long enough to use all of it, if you use it like I do. I guess that means that Pro-Soft is already effectively ¼ of the retail price, just because you get to use all you bought, not just ¼ of it.
Two, it just plain works. Being a liquid, it flows to and into the junction surfaces. It means having to get used to letting the glue come to you, but read the instructions and follow them and youll be fine. Listen, if this old hillbilly can figure it out in a couple of tries (and I did), anybody can. It also binds, oh boy, does it bind. I wont bore you with all the non-fishing uses Ive found, but Ive successfully glued an eye back to a rod (in the river), a reel handle grip (on the river), more plastic baits than I have room or time to describe (both repairs and some very interesting mutations), waders, wading shoes, the list just goes on and on, and by the way, so does the bond.
Three, it cures very well. It cures in water, and it cures soft. No time spent blowing on the just glued bait, folks. Glue it, wait 10 seconds or so, re-rig it (dont forget to glue the rig holes, too), and go fishing. The soft repair means no more hard spots to put the fish off when they strike, no hard flat repairs to rip the bait apart after re-rigging, just soft junctions that continue to let the bait do its job longer, saving us money.
Like I said, Im a traditionalist, but I know something good when it comes along. PROs Soft~Bait Glue® just became a new tradition. I dont go to the water without it!

I met Mike Rice, president of PRO's Soft~Bait Glue,
earlier this year at an outdoor show. This was my first encounter with
his product, and to say I was impressed is a true understatement.
While watching the glue demonstration, Mike asked me to tear a soft plastic lure in half. After doing so, he put a small dab of the glue on the bait and I pushed the two halves back together. To my amazement, the plastic was immediately repaired. I even started pulling both ends of the plastic, but the newly glued halves held together. In fact, the plastic began to tear above and below the just glued section. That, in itself, was impressive....but, watching Mike tear a Yamamoto Senko apart and then repair it with a drop of glue....now that really sold me.
PRO's Soft~Bait Glue dries clear and is odorless. Also, it is "Non-Toxic" and cures quicker when dipped in water. When used on plastic lures, the plastic stays flexible, soft, and durable without stiffness.
The glue has a one year shelf life if opened and kept at moderate temps of 40 - 65° Fahrenheit. It has a 2 year shelf life unopened. It will keep indefinitely in the freezer. If needed, the glue also works on glass, rubber, shoes/boots, leather, and a host of other items and materials. But, for sake of brevity, I will concentrate only on the fishing lure applications.
PRO's Soft~Bait Glue allows me a very fast and efficient means to repair all my fishing plastics and to create my own custom lures. The glue pays for itself in the "money saving" and "time saving" categories. For example, the glue allows me to immediately repair lures and equipment while I am on the water. This extends the life of the lure, therefore, saving me money on lure purchases. Secondly, at the end of the day, I don't have the time to try and repair all my torn plastics by the various "heating" techniques. Just a small dab will quickly mend the plastics.
PRO's Soft~Bait Glue has a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
In conclusion, I applaud Mike Rice for giving the fishing community a phenomenal product....that WORKS!
