On Sunday after the tournament Fritz Nordengren and I left and drove to Cable, Wisconsin, about 100 miles away for another week of fishing. Fritz and I met on my site on the internet and we were joined by three other fishermen from my site - two brothers, one from south Georgia and one from Kentucky, and their nephew from Illinois.
We had a cabin rented and fished several smaller lakes in the Cable area. We also drove up and fished one day on Lake Superior. It was weird fishing for bass on a lake so big you could not see land in some directions, but it was a calm day. We caught a few smallmouth and rock bass, but the best catch was a 38 inch, 11 pound northern pike Fritz landed. My best pike was 3 pounds there.
Our best day was Tuesday, when the two of us landed 47 bass, mostly largemouth, from two small lakes near Cable. The next day we landed 40 bass, about half smallmouth, from another area lake. I managed a 5 pound pike one evening but our biggest bass was a 20 inch largemouth Fritz caught.
We had a great time catching fish, eating good food and getting to know each other. Making friends long distance on the internet can happen - Fritz lives in Iowa and I consider him a good friend now. I am already looking forward to the trip next year!
