Fishing Georgia: An Angler's Guide to the Best Fresh and Salt Water Fishing
by Kevin Dallmier

No species of game fish, either fresh or salt water, is overlooked in this comprehensive guide to Georgia fishing.  From detailed maps of each fishing spot to a description and tips on catching each fish in the state, Mr. Dallmier presents an interesting and useful guide.

An overview map showing over 100 fishing spots in the state starts you off at the beginning of the book with the knowledge it is very detailed.  Everything from Georgia weather to clothing you will need to fish in the state is discussed in the introduction.  Information on wildlife you may see and insects that may bug you is presented. The introduction alone, with the above as well as sections on water safety, sun protection, getting kids started fishing, handling your catch and Georgia regulations is worth the price of the book!  It also includes fish consumption advisories, boat ramp info, campgrounds, private property rules in the state, river systems, live bait use and more!

As a reference, the state record freshwater and saltwater fish are listed in charts showing size, where caught and date caught.  There is information on submitting your catch for the Georgia Angler's Awards Program, too.

The section of the book I found most interesting is on "Fish Species of Georgia."  Each fish is listed with a detailed description and characteristics of each.  Then there are techniques for catching them for casting, bait fishing and fly fishing, where appropriate.  It even includes the best places in the state to catch them!

The heart of the book is a list of 102 fishing spots in the state. Each section begins with a map of a quadrant of the state showing how to get to the fishing holes there.  Then the site itself is listed and each includes o list of key fish species, general description, best ways to fish, best time of day to fish, detailed description of the resource and the fishing and location on the statewide map.  General information about the site includes camping facilities, nearby places to get food and rooms, directions and contacts for more information.  The section on offshore fishing spots includes GPS coordinates for wrecks and reefs!

For a resident of Georgia, Mr. Dallmier's book is an invaluable resource and every fisherman in the state would find it extremely useful.   For a newcomer to the state, or a visitor, this book would be the place to find out where to go fishing.

Kevin Dallmier is a state fisheries biologists and an avid fisherman.  He has the scientific background and knowledge of the fish from daily work with them to present the information you need.   And as a fisherman, he shares tips on catching the fish that can come only from someone who goes fishing regularly.
