Five Species Of Alaska Salmon

Alaska sockeye salmon crowd some Alaska waters but are rare in others. Their flesh is very red and the richest of all salmon. They fight hard and jump wildly but are one of the hardest species to hook. Average size is about six pounds but they get into the mid teens in weight. Sockeye salmon are also called red salmon because of the red color of their meat.
