I just read your article about the Jig and Pig.
A buddy and I went fishing Friday evening and weren't having much luck. We can across an old weathered fisherman that said he was having a good day, but he usually does. He told us he would let us in on his secret. It was a midnight blue Jig and Pig. I had never tied one on but after seeing his stringer FULL of heavy largemouth's I started searching the tacklebox.
I probably made 40 or so casts before I had a bite. Not that I knew it was a bite, I never felt anything, just saw my line going sideways. I set the hook and thought I was hund on a log, but the log kept moving. As my buddy was asking if I needed the net, the fish jumped up out of the water. Now, I have to tell you that I am by no means a professional angler. I have never caught anything larger than 4 pounds.......But, this was the largest Bass I had ever seen.
I now know why they call them Hawgs.....he had a huge fat belly, looking like he had swallowed a watermelon. I'm not even going to guess how much this fish weighed, I'll just let you know I didn't get the chance to get him in the boat. The fleeting few seconds are still seared in my mind.
There are only two fortunate things from that experience.
1. There were 3 other witnesses that saw the Hawg!
2. I was convinced that the Jig and Pig was the right lure for me!
The following evening by buddy and I went out again for about 3 hours in the evening. I can't say we caught a lot of fish, be we had a great day of quality fishing.
We ended up the trip with a 7, 6.5, 6.25, 4, 4, and 4lbs. This was by far the best day of bass fishing either of us had ever had, and we only fished for 3 hours.
I'm sure you know that by now, 2 days later, my tacklebox is stocked with all assortments of the Jig and Pig!
