This is where the dock will go, it will run out almost to the edge of the water.

Ronnie Garrison
With the pond down 10 feet the edge was about 50 feet out. That gave me plenty of room to build my dock that would extend out 32 feet from the bank. The water would be about 5 feet deep at the end when it was filled back up.

Draining a pond allows you to do several things. I built a few brush piles and even two rock piles - one with natural rocks and one with concrete blocks - while the pond was down.

While the pond was down I also found out where all the stumps, logs and holes were located. I was disappointed to see how much the pond had silted in over the years - this pond was built about 40 years ago.

A siphon system will allow you to pull water down and plant grain around the edges for ducks. When it is mature, raise the water level and flood it for them.
