Angler of the Year Bass Fishing Information

By , About.com Guide

Highlights this week:

> Greg Hackney displaces Marty Stone as the No. 1 angler in the world. > Pennsylvania's Dave Wolak widens his lead in the ROY Race; Florida's Bobby Lane drops to 3rd.

Hackney Back At The Top

After last week's FLW Tour event on Alabama's Wheeler Lake, Greg Hackney once again takes over as the No. 1-ranked angler in the world.

In the last edition of the State Farm World Rankings, Hackney had only been a little over 2 World Rankings points behind former No. 1 angler Marty Stone. But a 4th at Wheeler – Hackney's third Top 5 in four events and his fourth Top 20 in five events – puts him almost 7 points ahead of Stone, who is now 2nd in the world.

To remain the No. 1 angler in the world through the end of the season, Hackney will have to perform well at four more events: the one remaining regular-season FLW Tour event (on the Potomac River in June), and the three championships in July and August: the FLW Tour Championship in mid-July, the Bassmaster Classic in late July and the Cabela's Top Gun Championship in mid-August.

Stone will have two shots to get the No. 1 position back: the Classic and Top Gun. But he also has Skeet Reese, Kevin VanDam and Aaron Martens – who remain 3rd, 4th and 5th in the world, respectively – behind him.

Other notable movement:

> A 35th at Wheeler helps Takahiro Omori move back into the Top 10 at 10th.

> Mike Iaconelli finally got out of his cycle this year of good BASS finishes and horrible FLW ones. This week he climbs nine slots to 12th in the world.

> A 17th at Wheeler helps South Carolina's Anthony Gagliardi, who is having a good year, also climb nine slots to 18th in the world.

> A 21st at Wheeler helps Pennsylvania's Dave Lefebre move up eight spots to 20th in the world.

> Wheeler winner Alvin Shaw jumps 34 spots to 30th in the world.

> A 7th at Wheeler helps Michigan's Chad Grigsby jump 35 spots to 34th in the world.

> A 5th at Wheeler is Toshinari Namiki's third Top 5 in three events, including a win at the Ouachita River FLW. This week he jumps way up (37 spots) to 44th in the world.

> Indiana's Chip Harrison Jr. also has quietly been fishing well this year. A 9th at Wheeler helps him leap 39 slots to 49th in the world.
