2007 Women's Bass Tour Lake Dardanelle Practice

Susan Dameron's Journal - Lake Dardanelle Practice

By , About.com Guide

I arrived here in Russellville, Arkansas Saturday evening. I had a practice partner set up for Monday and Tuesday. When I saw her Saturday she asked if I wanted to fish on Sunday as well. Of course, I said yes.

Sunday was a beautiful sunny day with a slight westerly wind. The fishing was great. It seemed that everything we threw got a bite, mostly plastics. We quickly discovered our confidence baits/colors and had a blast catching fish all day. I think I ended up with eleven with two of those being good keepers.

Monday was a little cooler with more cloud cover and the breeze. I had the morning bite with my first fish of the day a decent keeper. I had a dry spell for a few hours, but things picked back up after lunch. I caught another nice keeper that we had watched actually raise up some of the grass mat that we were fishing. It was pretty awesome. So I finished the second day with twelve fish in the boat, two of those better keepers than the day before.

Today was pretty slow as we had a rainy cold front moving in that made the bite a little tougher. I still hooked eleven fish -- seven of those made it into the boat and the other four came off on the way to the boat. None were keepers. I can't complain. Our confidence baits held up all three days so I'm hoping to make a pretty good showing here. I'm trying to stay very focused and just go with what I know. Time will tell I guess.

Largemouth here have to be 15 inches and Spots have to be 12 inches. The two have inbred(?) here and we have to be very careful when we decide what goes into the livewell. It seems like a simple problem, but it can be extremely frustrating at times. For example, you can't know a Spot simply by it's tooth patch. Some won't have them. When we were here last year, they provided us with an identification card of the two so that we would have something to compare them to. It would be nice to catch everything 15 in. or longer and not worry about this particular problem. That's what I'm hoping to do.
