There will be 15 rookies in the BASS Classic this year, a high number. The youngest fisherman is 23 years old and a rookie, the oldest fisherman in the tournament is 59 years old. And there are fishermen from all over the US from 23 different states. Gary Klein has fished in 29 BASS Classics, the most by far.
A couple of other BASSS Classics were held on the Delta. In the last one big news was made when a local shack owner shot at one of the boats during the tournament. No one was hurt.
Weigh-ins will be at the Ernest Morial Convention Center in New Orleans and there will be a three day exposition of fishing tackle and gear there during the classic.
The BASS Classic is arguably the most prestigious tournament in bass fishing. The winner will take home $500,000 in cash but it is worth much more in endorsements and sponsorships.
