This time of year, when I head to the lake, the first thing that enters my mind is "it's time for the buzz bait bite to really turn on."

The grass is dying back. It has holes all around and through the thick stuff and in most cases the water is just over the top of it, which spells buzz bait fishing! Bait is everywhere, the schooling fish and bait activity is strong, so folks it's time to think about pulling that Secret Weapon Buzz bait over the top and hanging on. The best news is in most cases the buzz bait bite can be all day long, and the sunniest days are generally the best.

Two keys to catching them for me:

  • First of all to have the right bait and the Secret Weapon Buzz bait is the best there is. It has sharp hooks, the bait runs true to the angle in which you are pulling it and the trailer willow leaf blade that is unique to SWL makes a little different sound and trail than any other bait on the market.

  • Second is finding the correct areas of the lake to use your SWL buzz baits. This time if year it's pretty simple. Look for scattered grass with holes and dying edges. Look for bait activity. And look for points, or edges or U-shaped indentions off the channel or around islands and you have got the ideal fishing spot.

One of the greatest things about buzz bait fishing in the fall is you can generally bring inexperienced fisherman to the lake and get them hooked up with a fun bite fairly easily. It's also a time of year that the weather is comfortable in most cases. A light jacket in the morning and snack or two and your all set to fish all day long.
