For many years I used only Stren line (buy direct) but now also use some of Berkley's line. (buy direct) Both are high quality, neither has ever failed me when I needed it, and I use both with confidence whether fishing a tournament or trying to catch crappie for a meal. Experiment to decide what you like best. There are so many new lines and improvements available almost weekly that it can be hard to keep up. When you find something that works for you, use it.
When you choose a line, decide if you want to use a braid (buy direct) or mono (buy direct), what color is best for you, and what you need if you are going after a record. To set a line class record, the line must break at or below the record test. More expensive lines are guarenteed to do this, cheaper lines often cover lax quality control with higher test line than stated on the spool, eliminating your shot at a record.
Walleye fishermen have a different set of qualities needed for their lines. No matter which line you choose, you need to change it often and take care of it. Put it on right, put the right amount on, and know when to change it. All are part of fishing with the right line.
Spool up with your favorite and head to the lake. You will improve your success, and make sure the big one does NOT get away, with the right line.
