Striped bass fishing's most prestigious event, the National Striped Bass
Association's Shakespeare Striper Tour National Championship will be held in
Gainesville, GA at the Laurel Park Facility on beautiful Lake Lanier
December 2-6, 2003. Officials from the National
Striped Bass Association made the announcement just a few weeks ago that the
Georgia waters would be the site for this catch and release event.
Warren Turner, President of the NSBA, visited the Gainesville area and spoke
highly of the site and the local efforts to secure the event. "We are
pleased to bring the 2003 NSBA National Championship event to such a beautiful
area. Lake Lanier is a great striped bass fishery and we are excited to bring
the top striped bass anglers from across the country to such a beautiful town,
lake and fishery."
The NSBA/Shakespeare Striper Tour National Championship pits the nation's top
175 striped bass teams against one another in an all out, two day tournament to
determine who among them is the best of the best. Mike Green from team Fishers
of Men, the 2002 Angler of the Year, describes fishing the National Championship
as a feeling unlike any other.
"I fish a lot of tournaments through out the year, but nothing comes close to matching the intense thrill and excitement of the National Championship." said Mike Green.
Along with the thrill and excitement of the
event is a hefty pay day, as the winner of the event will walk away with a 22
foot Sea Pro Boat with a 200hp Mercury outboard and a Loadmaster Trailer, valued
at
over $30,000. Other prizes will also be awarded for a total purse close to
$75,000, not bad for a weekend of fishing. In addition to the tournament
winnings, anglers will have many opportunities to present their team to
manufacturers in the fishing industry for potential sponsorship and endorsement
opportunities.
The National Striped Bass Association will also have the TV cameras on hand to
video the entire event for "Striper Fishing USA", which airs nation
wide on the Outdoor Channel. The weigh-in for each day of the event will be held
at Laurel Park, just outside Gainesville, GA and beginning at 2:00pm.
Anglers will begin to arrive in town on Tuesday Dec. 2nd and will have the
opportunity to pre-fish Wednesday and Thursday. Tournament fishing day will
begin Friday Dec. 5th at safe light.
The National Striped Bass Association's Shakespeare Striper Tour is the nation's largest and most prestigious striped bass fishing trail and organization.
