Lake Weiss Fishing Report

DATE: 7-08-2003
LAKE LEVEL: 564.9 ( This comes from AL Power) Weiss
                      Lake Guide Service - 565.8
NORMAL FULL POOL: 564.0
SURFACE TEMP: 84.8
WATER CLARITY: Most of the coves are in good shape, the main river is muddy. The same thing holds for upriver around Riverside. The water color in the Cowan and Spring Creek area up by Rooster's is slightly stained but fishable. The water color up by JR's Marina in Little River is stained but fishable.

CRAPPIE: Slow. A little bit at night around the bridges. The water is too high to fish under any of the docks.

BASS: Hotter than a 3 dollar pistol! With the high water they have moved in around the banks, shallow. Spinner Baits early and late (white). Carolina rigged soft plastics. If you like to catch bass you had better come on. Won't be long and it is going to be too hot.

STRIPE: Stripe fishing has been tough as nails. High moving water in the Cave Hole, Yellow Creek back by the falls. Other than that, you got me.

WHITE BASS: Where everybody has been catching them upriver is high and muddy. The bite is pretty slow.

BREAM: Another week or two and they ought to be there (Guntersville). Cheryl and I will take a trip over and we will let you know. (We might even drag Harry along. Butch is bailing hay).

CATFISH: Jug fishermen are doing good. So are the trot liners. A lot of good catfish around the fish cleaning stations. A 50 pounder would not surprise me.

CARP: (Bowfishermen): A little bit too stained.

There are a lot of trees, stumps and garbage coming down the river. Some of it is visible and some is not. A little chop on the water and none of it is visible. It probably will not hurt your boat but at the right speed you might ought to bring a paddle. Hope everyone had a Great 4th of July! As always, if we can be of any help to anyone, do not be shy. We will be glad to help. Please take the time to post any question or good information on our chat board. We get a lot of good input from other fishermen.

Sincerely,  Steve
