Lake Weiss Fishing Report

DATE: 3-08-02
LAKE LEVEL: 561.4
NORMAL FULL POOL: 564.0
SURFACE TEMP: 47in am 55 in pm
WATER CLARITY: Good

I told everybody that I would get you a fishing report on Wednesday or Thursday. I lied. Its Friday and here I am. But you are not going to want to hear it.  Fished Dan and had a decent day on Wednesday. We had 25. All of them good fish, some in the 2 1/2 range.  Fished Mike on Thursday and had 53.Fished Mike on Friday and had 7. The fish we caught were deep.  I tried everything that I knew to try today and nothing would work except chartreuse dynamite. I didn't mark 2 fish all day. Which tells me that they are very shallow, which I tried, or right on the bottom. The fish I caught were right on the bottom.  I cannot believe we are having this conversation over 7 fish!! Bubble Gum and green seem to be the color.  The fish I caught came out of 8 feet of water or better. I am not really used to "flapping" but I am today.

BASS: I caught more bass today than I did crappie. Bass were concentrated in about 6 feet of water off points. At one time today I had 9 rods out with 9 bass on at one time. The biggest one weighed about 7lbs.I may give up crappie fishing and start guiding for bass. The bass also seem to like the bubble gum jig.  The bass were in 55 degree water surface temp.

STRIPE: Stripes are hot and heavy. Using hyper-striper trolling out of Bay Springs. Also the Hawg's Den. Saw a 30+ today.

CATFISH: Come & Get all you want, especially up river in the Riverside area.

This has been the worst spring that I have ever seen! It has got to get better because it can't get much worse. Our weather and water all winter has been the strangest here that I have ever seen. I am saying my prayers to the fishing Gods that all will smooth out and go back to our normal. Lets all hope so! Thanks,

Sincerely, Steve
