Lake Weiss Fishing Report
DATE: 9-26-00
LAKE LEVEL: 560.8
NORMAL LEVEL: 564.0
SURFACE TEMP: 71.3*F
WATER CLARITY: Coves & creeks good, river muddy up river , mid lake
down shape.
CRAPPIE: Crappie fishing is a little slow. What crappie that are being
caught are caught on minnows along the old river edges. Activity should
increase as front passes and the temps have cooled.
BASS: Bass fishing is reasonably good. Still shallow. Should pick up
better towards end of week as weather stabilizes. Carolina rig still
good. Humps and sand bars still good. I have seen a lot of yearling bass
chasing shad in shallow water. Rat'l Trapping. (Humming them). The smaller
the Rat'l trap the better they seem to do.
CATFISH: Good catches still at night. Trot lines or jugs using cut bait.
STRIPE: Stripe fishing has been real good until today. With the passage
of the cold front and the blue bird sky's, and a sudden drop in water
temperature, they have shut down today. However, as soon as this water
stabilizes and the front passes through, they should be ripping & roaring
once again. I believe that I can read a depth finder after 50 years of
looking at one,it should me a ton of fish in a lot of areas today. The
best the stripe would do is just nudge the bait and kind of nip at
it.But I am pretty sure this will change by Thursday or Friday.
The lake has come up a little bit but is still almost 4 ft. low. Exercise
extreme caution when traveling on this lake. Especially from Cowan Creek
up. The road bed in the mouth of Cowan and Spring creek could get you
hurt. Do not attempt to get into Waterhouse Cove. However Dead
Boy,Trotters,Spring,3 Mile Creeks no problem except going in. Once you
are in you are ok. Yellow Creek good shape at this time. Little River in
pretty good shape also. This could change later in the week as there is
muddy water moving down the river. Big Nose & Little Nose, Sand Valley all
good shape. Anderson, Church House, Rose Garden good shape. PowerHouse Lake
is in good shape, but shallow in spots so watch yourself.
As usual if I can be of any help don't hesitate to "holler". But, before
you "holler", please look at the whole site as we have a lot of info
that may be of interest to you. www.lakeweissguideservice.com
