WEBSITE HELPS KIDS FISHING

BRINGING KIDS AND FISH TOGETHER IN THE COMPUTER AGE

KETCHUM, OK -- Introducing youngsters and parents to fishing, America’s favorite pastime, has been the goal of Hooked On Fishing International and its Kids All-American Fishing Derby program for the past 15 years. Now the program announces it has gone "on-line" with not only its derby program but information and educational tools for kids, parents and potential derby organizers.

The Kids All-American Fishing Derby site, located at www.kids-fishing.com, will feature monthly updates as well as interactive information resources.  Each month the website will feature a fishing tip for youngsters only (adults are instructed to "keep out"), plus one youngster each month will be selected for the photo of the month.

The young angler selected for the month of August is Brandon Haugen of McIntosh, MN, showing off his "monster bluegill." Photos posted at the website are chosen from those submitted by derby event organizers. The fishing tip of the month of August relates to summertime fishing.

Organizations or agencies interested in more information or an application for the 2001 kids’ derby program will be able to sign-up on-line. All news and press releases about the program are available at the website and are even archived for the viewer’s convenience.

One of the greatest features of the website will be the Derby Locator. In the spring of 2001, before next year’s derby "season begins", the viewer will be able to complete a brief on-line form, submitting his or her zip code, after which they will be informed as to the nearest derby location, contact name and phone number.

A totally new feature of the program and this website is the introduction of Project Bobber Incorporated, a not-for-profit arm of Hooked On Fishing International. Project Bobber has been established to provide fishing tackle, supplies and materials to organizations or agencies that lack funding and need assistance in promoting youth fishing activities.

Interested viewers will be able to learn more about the efforts of Project Bobber and will be able to make tax-deductible donations to this 501.C(3) charity on their computer via the secure web-site link capabilities.

The 2000 Kids All-American Fishing Derby program and its new interactive website is sponsored by Berkley PowerBait, Eagle Claw, G3 Boats, Igloo Camping, Laker Products, Bomber and Rebel Lures, Southwest Airlines, Berkley Trilene, Wal-Mart and Zebco. The website is e-powered by FishingWorld.com. All of these sponsoring entities support the philosophy of the Kids All-American Fishing Derby program: To introduce all youngsters and their families to an appreciation and respect for the environment, through conservation methods encouraged by means of hands-on participation in the outdoors and the sport of fishing.
