Mid-America Bass
Think about it, if the wind actually pushed shad every shad in the lake would be stranded on one side of the lake, flopping around on shore, after a few hours of high wind. The wind blows the surface of the lake only. What it does do is blows plankton and shad eat plankton. The wind will blow the dead shad but the bass do not eat these floaters. The depth of these actively feeding bass will be determined by water clarity. If you can no longer see the bottom your in enough water to catch winter bass, even if this is as little as 4' or 5'.
One of the best things about winter fishing is that you will only see 1 or 2 people as stupid as you out on the lake all day long. The tournaments during the winter season are much more competitive than at any other time of the year. You just don't seem to get very many of those fair weather "pigeons" that we count on all year long to increase the number and size of the checks. You have to produce and execute to get a winter check. The guys who enter winter tournaments are Die-hard Bass Fishermen. Granted they're not the brightest, they'd be home watching football if they were. But, more often than not, these are the guys you're going to see in the pay-line time and time again as the year goes on. These guys know the fish and how to catch them and you can bet that they're catching those big winter limits on some kind of Suspended Jerk-Bait.
