Andrew Kidd and Ronnie Fish West Point
I met Andrew Kidd on the Recreation-Outdoors-Fishing-Bass newsgroup. When he said he was coming to Georgia for a March visit, I invited him to fish with me for a day at West Point. After two weeks of warm spring weather we arrived at West Point with a 29 degree temperature, cold winds and bright blue skies - my most hated conditions. I did not expect to catch a fish. But, we did! Andrew beat me 4 bass to three, and he also had the biggest, with a 2 pound, 9 ounce spotted bass.
Andrew caught this nice spotted bass that
showed a weight of 2 lbs 9 ounces on my digital scales. That was our first fish
of the day and improved my attitude a bunch. The bass hit a crankbait near
a stump on a shallow point.

I was freezing but Andrew, more used to Indiana weather, said it felt like spring to him. Here is another small spot he landed on his favorite crankbait - he landed three this size in addition to the bigger one. The smaller spots seemed to be roaming, they would often hit right at the boat as we started to lift the crankbait out of the water.

I managed to catch this 2 lb. 2 oz. largemouth, the only largemouth of the day.
Spots seem to hit better after a cold front, and they saved our day. I had two
small spots in addition to this largemouth.

This spot hit my crankbait right beside the boat - the plug is actually 18 inches long, so you can get an idea how big the fish is. My hands are very badly swollen, too!
