Florida Crappie Fishing with Darren Carson
Darren took me to Lake Talquin in mid-February to fish for crappie there. He said we would catch some slabs, and he was right. These 12 weighed 17 pounds, the smallest is just over 1 pound and the biggest just over 2. We caught them in one morning of fishing.

These are two of the big crappie we caught. You can get an idea of the numbers and colors of the jigs Darren uses from the boxes shown - and there were many more out of the picture!

Darren's boat is set up for trolling up to 16 rods at a time. Here he is with 12 out and running, this is called a spider rig and he covers a width of about 34 feet of water on each pass.

Lake Talquin fish are fat and pretty. And the lake is beautiful.

Here is Darren in action in the front of his boat, fishing 8 rods while running the trolling motor, keeping the boat over fish and changing colors constantly.
