Fritz's Birthday Catfish

Took the kids fishing tonight -- down to the fishing pier at the gravel pit. A few other families were there fishing, the action was slow. The kids were fishing with jigs and bobbers, and I was using frozen shrimp (from last year) for catfish.

After we settled in, I had a bite on the fall, and it created quite a swirl. Then it started splashing the surface --- unusual for a catfish, I almost thought I has somehow snagged a carp...but after it started running drag, I could tell it was a cat. "It's a good fish" I said as I played it back to the pier. Not wanting to haul it up...and risk breaking the line...I played it over to the shore and walked down to get it.

I've never seen this before, but everyone on the fishing pier came over to look at it. Really a pretty fish --- the camera flash takes the color away.

27 3/4 " long 6 pounds 4 ounces. Catch and release ...into the grease.
