September 29 - Question - What is the weight of the world record shoal bass caught in Georgia? - Prize - Pack of worms and spool of Silver Thread line. Winner - When I mess up, I really mess up. This question was uploaded early Sunday night rather than Monday morning. Four correct answers came in by 8:00 the next morning. Since I usually upload between 7 and 8, all four win. They are: Kay Kalous, Washington - Ken Miller, Georgia - Ray Goff, South Carolina and Sandy Zion, California.

My mistake didn't end there. The last time I checked, Georgia Outdoor News on the list I link to listed a 8.3 pound shoal bass caught in Georgia's Flint River as the state and world record. It was also in the International Game Fish Association record book. That fish was important to me because I happened to be in a local sporting goods store in 1977 when it was brought in from the river. I thought it was still the record. I checked the IGFA book but looked at a old one. Several years ago the shoal and redeye bass were combined. The one I saw from the Flint River was beat by one caught in 1995 - and it is in the 1996 book that I got a couple of months ago. I guess that is when the GON page I link to was changed.

I say all this because Mike Nalle from Alabama answered my question correctly - he said there is no world record shoal bass listed and thought I had posted a trick question. The trick was I was not up-to-date! He will get the same prizes as theothers because he was the only winner with the correct answer.

Sorry about the confusion. I will try to be more careful in the future.

Next contest uploaded between 7:00am and 8:00 am Monday morning!
