Each spring the Georgia Outdoor Writers Association has a spring conference. We met April 29 - May 1 this year in Rome, Georgia where we enjoyed local outdoor opportunities.
One of the local attractions is the Coosa River and a park where an old lock and dam offer bank fishing and boat launching. We gathered there to catch some fish. The striped bass were running up the river to spawn, so you know how excited we were. Visions of 30 pounders were dancing in our heads.
You would think a bunch of outdoor writers could catch the biggest fish in the river. Kyle Kornegay, son of award winning writer Bob Kornegay, tied on a special "grasshopper" lure and caught the biggest of the day, shown below. It may be the only striper ever caught on a grasshopper!

And Scott even landed a golden striper! Look at the size of those fish!

John Trussell also managed to land some record setting stripers. His secret method consisted of choking them with a minnow too big for them to swallow.

And Tim Earl backed up against the wall to land his fish. As an engineer he was looking at the wall and accidently caught this one, I think.

The next day after landing all these trophies at the Mayo Bar Lock and Dam Park, members of GOWA joined bass club members from the Georgia Bass Chapter Federation for a day of bass fishing at the Rocky Mountain Public Fishing Area. Next week the story of that trip!
