Deer Sinew Trailer (for action and taste)
1. Remove the tendon (sinew) from the topside of the back-straps. 2. Place the sinew into heavy saltwater for several days. 3. Cut the sinew into your personally designed shapes. 4. Store in saltwater in a sealed container. 5. ADVANTAGE - These tough, paper-thin trailers add a tremendous amount of action to spinnerbaits, weedless spoons, rubber jigs, or bucktail jigs. 6. If you are willing to give up a bit of tender meat, you can leave ¼-in. or so of meat on the sinew. 7. NOTE: Sinew or tendons from the shoulder or hind-quarter can also be used.
Injector for Fish Attractant (another innovative idea from Jim Pope)
A few worms, lizards, and crawfish are produced with air pockets for flotation. For some time I have considered trying to make some kind of injector to easily fill all of the little air pockets with fish attractant. If the air pockets were full of fish attractant, any fish that munched down on the lure should be able to get a mouthfull of flavor. I ran across an old machine oiling squirt bottle while cleaning out the garage this spring. The little plastic container holds about an ounce of liquid and has a little applicator that is about three inches long. The tip of the applicator is just the right size to pop inside the air pockets of my Air Worms or Air Lizards. Now that I have cleaned the little device and filled it with attractant, I am ready to give it a try.
