If you want to catch a four pound or larger bass you should plan a vacation to San Diego County some time this fall or even better next March. All our lakes go into there winter mode the first week of November, which means planted trout. That turns on the bass like nothing else.
On the day the hatchery truck arrives at the lake, people line the shore pitching large trout imitating lures into the boils. It can get rather hectic. I personally think this is cheating, but they say its legal. If you wait a day or two for the trout to disperse, the bass move out and you can target them as usual, but with so many trout in the lake it is best to use some sort of a rainbow trout pattern on your lure. I like a countdown rapala or a jointed rebel. They should be large.
In closing all I can say is it is record time of the year again and I could not be happier.
