Gigging Carp

My name is TW, I live in North Webster, IN. (about 45 minutes northwest of Ft Wayne). The reason for my e-mail is........My "Laker" friends and I enjoy spearing (we call it Gigging) Gar all summer long. It is a chance for the boys to get out, cruise around on the pontoon at midnight, drink a few beers, and have a lot of fun.
We've really made it quite an event! We have our own specialized equipment and everything. The "real" fishermen in the area love us because we help clean out the Gar, but that's not why we do it.....ITS JUST PLAIN FUN! Last year was a pretty good one, we got 3 four footers (2 of them in one night by the same guy!). Another interesting tidbit is that we have noticed they "swim in pairs" in the spring....and are EVERYWHERE at night.
Well, just wanted to share my Gar Experiences with you, I don't find much information on my favorite summer's night activity. Thanks for the info.
