Fishing Books and Magazines
Dateline 12/21/98
Reading about fishing was always the next best thing to actually going fishing while I was growing up. Outdoor Life, Field and Stream and Sports Afield all let me dream about fishing and helped me learn about my favorite past time. I joined BASS in the early 1970's and their magazine taught me a lot about fishing for bass, and provided many hours of enjoyable reading.
Now there is a tremendous amount of information here on the web. Sometimes I wonder if print magazines are on the way out, although I still subscribe to at least a dozen. And I write articles for Georgia Outdoor News and Georgia Sportsman almost every month, so I have a vested interested their survival. And it is hard to take you computer to the bathroom!
Lots of specific ezines are available online, and you can get excellent info from the ones listed below. You can even try your hand at writing for several of them, and on new one, "Bass Castin'", is asking for your articles.
Books about fishing are very interesting, informative, fun, and I like to keep a good library of them. Some are very specific, like "Bass Fishing In Georgia" by Jimmy Jacobs, editor of Georgia Sportsman Magazine. I got a book "Muriel Foster's Fishing Diary" from a relative, a hardback book beautifully illustrated and published by Viking Press in 1980. And Larry Leonard Books include "Sturgeon Fishing" and "The Meanest Fish On Earth!" Both are excellent and great additions to any library.
Maybe the net won't replace all books and magazines too soon!
The links below are in my library of links to Magazines and my library of links to On The Bank - things to do while not fishing.
