| Ronnie catches the smallmouth | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
After the fish got off we headed in for supper. When we arrived at the cabin we discovered the other folks had decided to fish through our usual 5:00 PM supper time, so we quickly ate some leftovers. We did not want to wait around on the others, we wanted to get back to Crab Lake two miles away. When we returned to the lake I headed back to the same area near the floating dock. I decided to start on the point leading into the cove and saw a grass bed that looked good. When I got up on the platform I could see wood under the water, too. We were about 50 yards from where the smallmouth had broke Fritz's line when I saw a bass swim out from under a log and grab my slider worm. When I set the hook it took off and then jumped. I did not realize how big it was until it jumped. After seeing it I told Fritz, half joking, that it was the fish he had lost since it looked about the same size. We got the fish in the boat and, when I started to take the slider hook out of its mouth, could see Fritz's Senko in the fish's throat! It was the same one! I pulled the Senko out but left the hook since the fish was hooked deep in its throat. That does not happen a lot, but some fish will hit again quickly after being hooked! We have picture proof this one did!
