Crazy critters! That is all I could think last week after hearing a tale of raining fish and seeing for myself a snake and a shiner do strange things. Maybe it is the heat, maybe it is the rain or maybe it is just my luck to be in the right place at the right time.

At Griffin Hardware I was told a story about raining fish by a man who shall remain nameless to protect his reputation - but he works there! He said a relative invited him to go fishing for trout in north Georgia a while back. His host took him to a bridge and he was fishing under it. After a long time with no fish he ask for Divine help to catch his first trout.

Within a few minutes he heard a rumble then 10 inch trout started raining from above. They dropped into the water he was fishing and quickly adapted and started swimming around. A few minutes later the trout starting hitting his bait and he quickly landed his limit!

After going and getting his relatives, they all limited out. What a way to start your trout fishing experiences. I believe him, of course, and immediately realized he was lucky enough to be under the bridge where the hatchery truck stopped to stock put-and-take trout.

The state DNR grows trout up to about 10 inches long then dumps them in streams to be caught by anglers. I have been lucky enough to fish a river a few hours after it was stocked and fishing was fantastic. I understand some folks wait at the hatchery gate and try to follow the trucks, so they have to try to sneak out at varying times and even at night.
