Jacks are Wild

Although I can't catch Northern pike or muskie here in Georgia, we do have their smaller cousins, chain pickerel. In fact, the world record pickerel came from Georgia - a 9 pound, 6 ounce fish caught in1961.
The first jackfish I ever caught scared me. I was throwing a small spinner for bream and bass when something hit it and went wild, jumping and twisting in the water. It was long an skinny, and I was about to grab it in the mouth like a bass when my uncle warned me not to "lip" that fish!
We still catch some jacks while fishing for bass, usually in the colder months. I caught the one below at Clark's Hill last Christmas. It hit the Shadrap I was casting for bass around some rocks in shallow water.

Jacks are fun to catch and I can only imagine the thrill of a big pike or muskie. There is lots of info about fishing for them on the net - check out my library of links to muskie and pike for those. I understand pike are almost considered a nuisance in some waters they are so plentiful. Sounds like fun to me!
