Fishing With Lizards for Bass
Dateline 5/29/00
A few weeks ago there was a discussion on the forum about using live lizards for bait. I told about the time I saw a lizard fall out of a tree into the water and "run" across the surface to the bank. Looked and sounded just like a buzz bait! One post discussed how many bass could be caugh on them.
At Jack Wingate's Lunker Lodge at Lake Seminole, I saw the bass below. It was obviously feeding!

When I looked a little closer, I could see something sticking out just below its mouth. I could not tell what it was until I got much closer to it. Notice the little bump just below the lower jaw.

As I got closer, I could see it was something the bass was trying to eat. I guess part of it was in the bass's mouth, and the rest was hanging out and down the side I could not see.

I finally snuck up on the bass close enought without spooking it to see what it was trying to eat.

This series of photo's proves without a doubt that bass like lizards,or vice versa!
When I first spotted the lizard, it had its head sticking out of the middle of the bass's mouth. When I got close, it hid and then came back out for pictures below the mouth. No matter what I tried to do, it would not go back to the mouth. Still, kinda cute! Please forgive me for this tongue in cheek, or lizard in mouth, drift off into la-la land!
