| Bass Pro Tournament MTl-1 Reel - Fishing Product Review | |

By Jack Gaither
I ordered a new Garcia 5500C3 reel and there was a offer for this Bass Pro reel and a rod at a bargain price. I neeed a rod so I ordered them. The reel is very smooth casting and has a nice feel for an inexpensive reel. I found that I could cast about five or six times then get a snarl.
I kept wondering why so I began to try to find out what the problem was. I made three or four casts and then inspected the situation. I found that the level wind was on one end of the spool and the line was coming off the other end. I watched as the line went out and the level wind stayed in place on the cast without moving as the line went out.
By the time five or six casts were made the line was criss crossed over itself causing http://fishing.about.com/od/fishingglossary/g/Backlash.htm on next cast or two. I bought it as a backup reel if one of my others went bad on a trip and I guess It could be used in that way. Also I guess one can't expect too much from an inexpensive reel. I would not buy one as one of my first line reels. It would probably make a good trolling or live bait reel.
I am not in any way involved with Bass Pro except as a customer and I paid for the reel, it was not given to me.
