Here's an update about the product review of my Minn-Kota Genesis TrollingMotor.
If you will recall, I had it in the shop three times in the first four months I owned it. Each time the steering mechanism went crazy. Being totally electronic controlling the mechanical, it had a brain of its own - a micro-chip. Something happened to caused it to lose its 'home' position which in the microchip, instructed the foot to rotate to a designated position so that the motor could properly be stowed when it lifted the foot up out of the water.
I had to take it to the local
Minn-Kota service center - Riverdale Marine Electronics. Bob Smith, the owner of Riverdale Marine Electronics did a great job. The motor just had some problems. After contacting Minn-Kota and speaking to the proper managers and some they hearing my complaints, they agreed to send a new motor to me.The new motor seems to be working fine. I think they have made some minor adjustments - such as the clutch mechanism in the steering assembly and it seems the prop speed 'ramps' up now instead of going to the top speed instantly - making for a smoother operation.
I love the Genesis and the automatic lifting concept, but did not enjoy taking it off the boat, putting it in the truck and taking it to the service center three times all the way from Lake Oconee. Conclusion: so far - so good.
Stay tuned.
