FRESHWATER FISHING
October 13, 1999 - Vol. 2, No.20
Special Newsletter - Sorry this is so long, but we have a great new program at About.com - check it out, then look at all the links below!
To all you webmasters out there, I would like to call your attention to About.com's newly launched Affiliate Program (http://affiliates.about.com), which will prove to be the most dynamic and unique program on the web. By signing up you can link to content available here within my site, plus you'll be able to draw upon the creativity and knowledge of hundreds of my fellow Guides to make your Web site the best it can be.
Here's how it works. On your Web site you can place specific text-links and banners that will link directly to my site and any others that you may choose to affiliate with. You will also have the ability to add search boxes, which can search exclusively within my site or search all of About.com. And better still, not only will you be enhancing the overall functionality of your site, but About.com will pay $0.06 for each qualified click-through.
Signing up is easy. Just visit the program at http://affiliates.about.com, read the About.com Affiliate Program agreement, and fill out an application. Once approved, you will receive an email from us formally welcoming you into the About.com Affiliate Program.
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to e-mail the program at affiliates@about-inc.com.

Joke for this Week - The last four US Presidents are caught in a
tornado, and off they spin to OZ. After threatening trials and tribulations,
they finally make it to the Emerald City and come before the Great Wizard.
"WHAT BRINGS YOU BEFORE THE GREAT WIZARD? WHAT DO YOU WANT?"
Jimmy Carter steps forward timidly: "I had a terrible time with Iran,
so I've come for some courage." "NO PROBLEM" says the Wizard,
"WHO IS NEXT?" Ronald Reagan steps forward, "Well.., Well..,
Well.., I need a brain." "DONE" says the Wizard. "WHO
COMES NEXT BEFORE THE GREAT WIZARD?" Up steps George Bush sadly, "I'm
told by the American people that I need a heart." "I'VE HEARD
IT'S TRUE" says the Wizard. "CONSIDER IT DONE." Then there
is a great silence. Bill Clinton is just standing there, looking around,
not saying a word. Irritated, the Wizard finally asks, "WELL, WHAT
BRINGS YOU TO THE EMERALD CITY?" " Where's Dorothy?"

Tip of the Week - Practice casting. I am always amazed at how accurate
pro fishermen are when they flip or pitch, and how effortless they make
it look. I am also often amazed at how inaccurate other fishermen are when
they cast. You should be able to hit a six inch circle with a flip or pitch,
and your bait should enter the water without a splash. You will catch more
fish if you learn to put your bait in the exact right spot and do it without
any noise.
======================================
Message Boards - Every visit to the Freshwater Fishing Board
- http://fishing.about.com/mpboards.htm
- during the week is eligible for a prize. Each Monday I will put every
visitor's name from one Sunday NOON to
the next in a 'hat' and draw one as the winner. Every log-in will be counted
as one visit, so the more times you visit the board, the more chances you
have to win! The winner will be notified by email and posted here. There
will be one winner per week.
This contest is, of course, an unabashed attempt to get people to use my boards! The only requirement is that posts must be related to fishing. The board is for fishing info so ask a real question, respond with an answer you know, or post information about a trip you took. They can be original posts or responses to posts. All the details and a list of past winners can be found at http://fishing.about.com/library/weekly/blboardcontest.htm
10/11/99 through 10/17/99 - Prize this week,
An About.com Tee Shirt
======================================
Upcoming Events - There is a calendar of events on my site - http://fishing.about.com/mevents.htm
- where I list any event I can find related to fishing. I have also posted
notes about this site - when articles will be updated, chat topics, fishtales
and other things. If you have any event you would like posted there, please
email me. I can post them years in advance!
======================================
Thought for the Week - If genius is one percent inspiration and
99 percent perspiration, I must be sharing elevators with a lot of bright
people.
=======================================
Fishing The Net - http://fishing.about.com/msubfishnet.htm
- Each week I feature five to ten sites I have found that week. I get them
from newsgroups, email and surfing the net. Check these sites out - they
change each week and are moved to my library of links at the end of each
week. If you have your own site or a favorite that you would like me to
list, email me!

Bonus Joke - Living to 100 - A man asked his doctor if he thought
he'd live to be a hundred. The doctor asked the man, "Do you smoke
or drink?" "No," he replied, "I've never done either."
"Do you gamble, drive fast cars, and fool around with women?"
inquired the doctor. "No, I've never done any of those things either."
"Well then," said the doctor, "what do you want to live
to be a hundred for?"
