Fishing books range in quality from those with pretty pictures but little useable information to invaluable guides to catching a specific kind of fish. Decide if you want a general guide to many fish or information about your favorite fish.
General Fishing Books
General fishing books cover a wide variety of fish species and often cover a lot of territory. These general books will give you good basic info but usually not as much detailed information as species specific books. They are excellent for beginners as well as fishermen wanting a broad information base.
Bass Fishing Books
Bass are probably the most popular species to write books about. Bass fishermen generate a lot of spending so books are available for them, too. Choose books that give specific information about patterns and methods to catch them. Books that are too general may be interesting to read but will not help you learn to catch bass.
Trout Fishing Books
Trout fishing has a long and detailed history and it is seen almost as a mystic sport. From books that give detailed information on catching trout to books about life that include a lot on fishing for trout, you can find most any kind of trout fishing book you want. Look for specific how-to information for the most help.
Fishing Humor
Fishing humor is often found in all kinds of fishing books, but few are all humor. Although much of fishing is funny and we all have humorous stories to tell, a book full of those kinds of stories is not easy to find. Look for books that are fairly short and dedicate themselves to the funny side of fishing.
Fishing Record Books
Fishing record books can either be lists of records or books about catching a record fish. For records look for a list that includes each fish species and also includes overall records as well as line class records. Many states also publish record books or lists specific to that state. If you have a favorite fish, look for a book about the world record for it.
