Land big fish like this salmon by following Captain Jim Hirt's tips We all lose some of the fish we hook. There are things you can do before hooking the fish and while fighting it that will increase your odds of landing the fish. Study them and put them into practice now if you are able to fish. If you are not fishing now get your equipment ready and practice in your mind so you will do it right.

(1) Largemouth Herald says:

Try boat flipping your smaller bass to get ‘em in the boat quickly. This works for 3 pounds or less and it takes some practice. You start the fish from the front of the boat and pulling him towards the middle of the boat and lifting it in with the fishes momentum. Don’t try it in a tournament until you’ve practised it. It does save time and lessens the chance of the fish pulling off.

I often do that but generally with smaller than three pound fish. And anything I want to make sure I land in a tournament I get a net under – have had too many pull off as I raise them out of the water, especially if hooked on a crankbait.
