Why fish? Sometimes people ask me that question and it takes some thought to answer why I fish. I have fished all my life so it is part of me. The question is almost like asking me why I sleep or eat. Have you ever thought about why you fish? You can join the discussion on the forum and see how others answer this question.

Why fish??? Why not? What’s a better way to relieve stress? Even without catching a fish, a day on the water or even an hour on the fishing bank is a great way to relax. It’s one of the easiest ways to get into and observe nature and yet be able to put your skills, research and luck to the test pulling in (in my case) a big ol’ catfish. I also take my kids fishing, and I enjoy teaching them not only how to bait a hook and remove one from a fish, but to enjoy their time in the woods or at the lake as much as they can. I would rather my kids be playing in dirt or skipping rocks across the water than to be playing Wii or Playstation at the house. Just my humble opinion.

do you know if the disease the bass have is catching in humans. my partner and family were at the orzarks in august, he now has as described on the fish on his legs!
Which disease are you talking about? I am not sure since no disease, other than maybe fishing fever, is in this article.
Let me know and I will try to find out.
Great comments. Teaching kids is very rewarding. Since I spent 29 years as a teacher and principal I really never wanted to take kids with me – got enough of them during the work day. But now that I am retired I enjoy it and have worked to get a youth club started through my bass clubs.
Can’t come up with an explanation why. Just can’t seem to get enough. Maybe for me it’s why don’t you! Never got a disease from fish that wasn’t spoiled, can’t remember the name of it though (the disease not the fish). Best idea in the world to get kids outdoors. Fish, hunt, trap or shooting, no better way to instill respect and teach outdoor safety. The last of least is the least taught. Scouting is a good way to also keep kids involved outdoors, don’t forget with good leadership, mom & dad.
