How in the world can the weather in the winter affect fish hiding under a thick layer of ice? How would they know what the weather is doing? Bob Jensen says weather does affect the fish under the ice and gives an example of a trip where the fish started biting when the weather changed.

Yes weather affects fishing at all times of the year. Atmospheric pressure change is one of the big ones.
Cold fronts moving in on my fishing vacations, are the biggest downers! Warm rain is good, when it is not associated with a cold front. Don’t think rain or snow is a cold front. In fact, in the winter, when ice-fishing, snow is common when the temps rise. Good time to fish.
I think of a cold front as a bluebird sky and high pressure – that is what hurts fishing, I think.
