Some states have closed seasons for bass while they are on the bed. In other places, especially the south, there is no closed season and it is common practice to fish for bedding bass. It is legal but is it ethical? Some people say sight fishing for bass on the bed is not ethical but they have no problem dragging a Carolina rigged lizard across shallow flats in the spring. How is it different if you catch a bass on the bed you can see from catching one on the bed you can't see?

I think it depends more on the condition of the population of bass in the water being fished. If the population is threatened or struggling it is probably better to leave the bedding fish alone until numbers increase. Doesn’t matter if you can see them or not.
