I tried to make my own float tube many years ago. I got an old truck tire tube and made a seat out of parachute harness webbing. The first time I used it I quickly found out I needed suspenders to hold it up when I hit shallow water and wanted to wade. I also found out it was very difficult to maneuver - I needed swim fins or kickers to move around.
The tube worked but nothing like modern float tubes. They are more like small boats with pockets for tackle and even mounts for deptfinders. A float tube might be the perfect fishing platform for you.
Do you ever fish from a float tube? Got any tips or experiences to share about fishing from a float tube?

Float tubes are great… if you don’t have an enlarged prostate and its inevitable results: frequent trips to the little room in back to “count your change.”
In other words, get a pontoon boat and carry a “thunder bucket” for those change-counting times.
Better yet, eschew air boats altogether. Get a 12′ Alumacraft, Minn-Kota Endura 30, 7.5hp Evinrude, a Cannon Mini-Troll and fish in comfort and style.
