Big Catfish, False Claims

Saturday August 22, 2009
This picture of a big catfish has been making the rounds. The picture of the big catfish to the right has been making the rounds on the internet with claims it was caught on many different lakes. Truth is, it is probably a Wels cat from Europe. Click on the picture for some pictures of real cats caught in the US.

The internet is great but there is a lot of bad information on it. Fishing seems to be a popular target of folks making wild claims. This picture is a good example. It is a good idea to check things out and verify before spreading incorrect information. The old 'trust but verify" works well. Make sure you don't embarrass yourself by sending on emails that contain bad information.

Whew!,
I can’t imagine the guy who “noodled” this catfish. For those of you not familiar with “noodlin”, it’s a wrestling technique used by southern catfish experts where they wrestle the catfish from logs and cover!

Just like the pic of a large Northern that was actually a european pike that made the rounds a few months ago.
