Choosing a fishing rod can be a tough decision. Many stores carry a wide varitey of rods and you need to know what kind of rod you need, or have some help. Here are some basic starting points on buying a rod, and places where you can buy them. Several of the companies that make them are also listed here.

Hi everyone! Ok so my husband and his buddy just got into fishing. I bought him a Cabelas rod and the hole nine yards, and spent about $600 to buy him a few accessories and all that good stuff. He went on a boat trip to fish and he had a 38 lb’r get hold of his line snapped it and the end of the rod. Luckily he still managed to get the fish into the boat before the line completely snapped. He had a 40lb line and the weight capacity on the pole supposably was 80lbs. Where can I get something more sturdy, and guaranteed? Its not like he wants a shark or anything, just something short and rock hard!!! Please email me! Thanks!

Its possible the rod was ok but had been damaged. If you tap a rod against something like a boat gunwale or even a truck tail gate or something similar, it can put a fracture in the rod and make it fail when a lot of pressure is put on it.

There are several good places to get rods, from Bass Pro Shops to your local Walmart and local fishing stores. In a smaller store the clerk should be able to help you pick out what you need.
