Fishing Rods with Roberts Wrap

Saturday March 28, 2009
What is Robert's Wrap on a fishing rod and is it good or bad? I won a rod with that system and it works great, but I am not sure it is much better than the regular system of placing guides on a rod.

Line slap can be eliminated on casting rods by adding guides in the process of building the rod. Also using higher frame guides in the traditional sense works. The object among many builders is to have the line flow in a straight line from the reel to lure. But a lot of guys like the Roberts wrap so whatever feels good use it.

A few of my friends and I call it an acid wrap..I think that may have come from California, where my friends brother had the first one that we saw.

Never heard it called an acid rap -interesting. It has been around many years and its popularity waxes and wanes.

You are right - everything is a trade off. More guides mean more weight and more friction as the line flows through them. As you say, its your choice.
